Frampton Comes Alive! by Peter Frampton
About the album Frampton Comes Alive!
In 1976, the global rock scene was "shaken" by a blonde Brit with an angelic face and a guitar that... spoke. Frampton Comes Alive! was not just a record; it was a cultural phenomenon of the decade, turning Peter Frampton from a promising guitarist into a global teen idol almost overnight.
Frampton Comes Alive! is a mosaic of live performances from 1975, primarily focusing on the concerts at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco and the Marin Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Although initially planned as a single LP, Jerry Moss of A&M Records requested more material, leading to the creation of the iconic double album released in January 1976. The decision to sell it at a low price, slightly above that of a single album, proved to be a strategic genius. The album included live renditions of songs from his previous four studio albums. The three massive hits that topped the charts were: Show Me The Way, Baby, I Love Your Way, and Do You Feel Like We Do, a 14-minute epic, established the talk box as Frampton's signature, allowing his guitar to "articulate" words and communicate directly with the audience (!)
For Frampton, the album was the ultimate vindication after years of touring without major commercial success. It became the best-selling album of 1976 in the U.S. and remained at No.1 on the Billboard 200 for 10 weeks (!) Its sales are staggering as in the U.S. alone, the sales of this double album exceeded 8,000,000 copies.
