About the album As Is Now
Paul Weller released his eighth album, As Is Now, in October 2005. It is considered a return to original material after the cover album Studio 150 (2004) and was recorded in just two weeks in March of the same year.
The musical style of the album combines rock, R&B, soul, and jazz elements, with strong influences from Weller's mod and punk roots in The Jam. All the compositions on the album are by Paul Weller, while the production was handled by Weller himself along with Jan "Stan" Kybert. The lyrics are more mature and introspective, with the song Savages standing out for its social commentary on violence in the world. The single From The Floorboards Up reached No. 6 in the UK Top-10.
As Is Now reached No. 4 on the UK charts.
