About the album Speak Of The Devil

Speak Of The Devil (known in the United Kingdom as Talk Of The Devil) is Ozzy Osbourne's first live album as a solo artist, released in November 1982. The album consists exclusively of covers of Black Sabbath songs from the time when Ozzy was a member.

Speak Of The Devil was recorded live at The Ritz club in New York City, on September 26 and 27, 1982. The musicians who participated in the recording had no prior relationship with Ozzy before recording the live album (!) They simply played with him on those two nights (!) The album was mainly created for Ozzy to fulfill a contractual obligation to Jet Records. Its release was also considered a "response" to Black Sabbath's live album, Live Evil, which was released at the same time with Ronnie James Dio on vocals. Originally, Ozzy planned to release a live album with recordings of Randy Rhoads, but after the tragic death of the guitarist in March 1982, Ozzy felt it was too soon to capitalize on his memory (these recordings were eventually released in 1987 on Tribute). The cover caused reactions and was considered controversial for its time. It depicts Ozzy with fangs, with something resembling blood running from his mouth, which was actually raspberry jam (!)

Despite Ozzy himself having stated in the past that he doesn't particularly like this album, Speak Of The Devil had great commercial success. It reached No. 14 on the Billboard 200 and went platinum with sales exceeding 1,000,000 copies. The total sales of the album are estimated to be over 1,000,000 million worldwide.
