Pain In My Heart by Otis Redding
About the album Pain In My Heart
Otis Redding introduces himself for the first time with his recording debut, Pain In My Heart in 1964. With its release by Volt (a subsidiary of the legendary Stax), the "King of Soul" was introduced to the world, bringing with him a sound dripping with emotion and truth.
The recording of the album took place in the "holy temple" of Stax Records in Memphis, produced by Jim Stewart. The magical ingredient was Booker T. & the M.G.'s along with the Memphis Horns, who created that tight-knit, "horn" groove that became the company's trademark. The album is a blend of original compositions and iconic covers, such as the stunning performances of Stand By Me and You Send Me, where Otis gives a wilder, gospel touch.
Pain In My Heart served as a roadmap for the British invasion and artists like Mick Jagger. Although it didn't immediately sweep the charts (it reached No. 103 on Billboard), its historical value is immeasurable, as it laid the foundations for modern soul.
