About the album Z

The American band My Morning Jacket, after three albums whose musical style was based on the rock sound, returned in 2005 with their fourth studio album with a renewed sound. Their compositions balance between the indie rock trend and indie pop, which was not so evident in their previous recordings. The departure of guitarist Johnny Quaid and keyboardist Danny Cash contributed to the change in the band's sound. Another change that occurred was the collaboration of My Morning Jacket with producer John Leckie, as the production of previous works was mainly done by the band's singer and guitarist, Jim James. The title of the album was Z.

Another story that accompanied the release of Z was the electronic lock that the CD had, which did not allow its owners to copy it. The band opposed this policy of their record company and the subsequent editions of the CD did not contain the lock.

The great success of the album - undoubtedly - was the first single of the album, Off The Record, which impressed with its reggae rhythm. Z reached No. 67 in the U.S. and No. 74 in the UK.
