About the album Vauxhall And I
In 1994, Morrissey released his fourth solo album titled Vauxhall And I. It was never clarified whether the word “Vauxhall” refers to the car brand or the name of an area in London where there were gay clubs. Either way, Vauxhall And I becomes one of the most interesting and successful albums of the former singer and songwriter of the Smiths.
The lyrics of all the songs belong to Morrissey, while the music for half of the songs was undertaken by the guitarist and keyboardist Boz Boorer and for the other half by the guitarist Alain Whyte, both of whom were also present during the recording of the album. The album was produced by Steve Lillywhite, who once again created a crystalline sound for Morrissey's record.
Vauxhall And I was a great success for Morrissey as it became his second album to reach No.1 in the United Kingdom, and its performance on the Billboard was not bad either, as it reached No.18.
