Script For A Jester's Tear by Marillion
About the album Script For A Jester's Tear
In 1979, Marillion was formed in Aylesbury, England. In 1983, they released their debut album titled Script For A Jester's Tear, whose musical style seemed completely outside the prevailing trend in the British music scene at the time. The album is a progressive rock record as if it was recorded five to ten years earlier.
The music of the compositions belongs to the whole band, while the lyrics are a personal matter for the Scottish singer Derek William Dick, or more simply Fish. The recordings and creation of the album lasted from December 1982 to February 1983. Out of nowhere, producer Nick Tauber found himself in the production of the album since Dave Hitchcock, who was ready to start his collaboration with Marillion, had a serious car accident at that time.
Script For A Jester's Tear reached No. 7 in the United Kingdom and went platinum, selling 300,000 copies there. Its most significant achievement is that it reignited interest in part of the British - and not only - music-loving audience for progressive rock, which seemed to have faded.
