About the album Fugazi

Fugazi is the second studio album by the British neo-progressive rock band Marillion, which was released on March 12, 1984. It is one of the darkest and most complex albums of the Fish era, reflecting a turbulent period for the group. Its title comes from Vietnam War military slang (Fucking Up Got Ambushed Zipped In), meaning a state of absolute chaos or something that is completely broken.

Fugazi is considered a cornerstone of neo-prog. Its sound is more aggressive and hard rock compared to their debut, with intense theatricality and complex orchestrations. The lyrics belong to Fish. The music was composed by the band members: Steve Rothery, Mark Kelly, Pete Trewavas, and the then-new drummer Ian Mosley. The production was done by Nick Tauber. The recording was chaotic and took place in various studios, such as The Manor, Sarm East, Eel Pie, and Maison Rouge. The cover was designed by Mark Wilkinson. It depicts the Jester (the jester-symbol of the band) dejected in a messy hotel room, surrounded by symbols of personal collapse and alienation.

The album achieved significant commercial success, reaching No. 5 on the UK Albums Charts and went gold. It includes the singles Punch And Judy (No. 29) and Assassing (No. 22).
