About the album Generation Terrorists
On February 10, 1992, the iconic debut album of the Welsh band Manic Street Preachers was released by Columbia Records. The title chosen by the Welsh was Generation Terrorists. This particular album was highly anticipated as the Manic Street Preachers had provocatively stated that the record would sell 16 million copies and that they would disband immediately afterward (!)
The musical style of the album through its eighteen songs combines the energy of punk, the ambition of arena rock, elements of glam rock, and, of course, the 1990s alternative rock gives a dynamic presence through songs like Motorcycle Emptiness, Slash 'n' Burn, You Love Us, or Nat West–Barclays–Midlands–Lloyds. The recording lasted 23 weeks. Notably, a drum machine was used for most of the percussion, giving a distinctive, almost "artificial" sound for a rock album.
Ultimately, Generation Terrorists managed to sell worldwide about 10% of the band's initial expectations, but it became the catalyst and springboard for a career that now spans nearly thirty-five years.
