About the album Erotica
Madonna's fifth album titled Erotica, which will be released in 1992, will focus on the theme of sex and sensuality to such an extent that she had never done in any of her previous albums. From the title and the cover of the album to the last song of the record, the dominant theme is eroticism. In order to promote the album, highly sensual video clips were shot. This resulted in a buzz around the album and achieved Madonna's goal of provoking society's conservative instincts.
The musical style of Erotica is something else that has changed. This album incorporates elements from hip hop, lounge music, new jack swing, deep house, and even trip-hop. It doesn't resemble the pop sound of Madonna's previous albums, except perhaps for the song Vogue. The songwriters are Madonna herself, Shep Pettibone, and Anthony Shimkin. The album's production was done by Madonna, André Betts, and Shep Pettibone. Among the singles of Erotica, a very sensual cover of the much-covered Fever, a 1956 song by Little Willie John, stood out! In retrospect and knowing the evolution of dance music, Erotica seems to be one of the albums that opened new paths or managed to bring the underground dance music of clubs to a much wider audience.
Nevertheless, Erotica became Madonna's first album that did not reach No.1 on the Billboard but stopped at No.2. The album's global sales are estimated to have exceeded 4,000,000 copies.
