Only By The Night by Kings Of Leon
About the album Only By The Night
The Kings of Leon entered the studio to record their fourth album, Only By The Night, in February 2008 at Nashville's Blackbird Studios. The creative process began almost immediately after the release of their previous album, with the band choosing producers Jacquire King and Angelo Petraglia to shape their new sound.
It was released in September 2008 through RCA Records and transformed the Kings of Leon from a critics' beloved band into a global phenomenon. Compositionally, the album includes eleven tracks that balance between intensity and melancholy. The opening Closer creates an eerie atmosphere, while Cold Desert closes the album with an emotional confession. The singles Sex On Fire and Use Somebody played a central role in this success. The former topped the charts in the United Kingdom and Australia, while the latter became one of the most recognizable anthems of the decade, earning the band three Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year in 2010.
Commercially, Only By The Night was colossal. It reached No. 1 in five countries and was the best-selling album of 2008 in Australia. Despite the sweeping success, reviews were polarized. However, history vindicated the album, as it has sold over 6,500,000 copies worldwide.
