About the album Red

In Red, King Crimson decide to play much heavier than what their audience was accustomed to. The sound is progressive rock, but the whole effort reaches the limits of extreme experimentation (e.g., spur of the moment improvisations).

Beyond the trio of King Crimson, all the other musicians who played – especially the wind instruments – had an equally decisive role in shaping the final sound result.

A few weeks after the album's release, Robert Fripp decided to break up the band, wanting to express his dissatisfaction with the music industry. Therefore, Red was never supported by any tour.
