About the album Point Of Know Return
The Americans, Kansas, recorded in June and July of 1977 the album that would become the band's fifth studio album. Point Of Know Return was finally released in October 1977. In this album, Kansas attempt to shift "slightly" towards hard rock, but progressive rock remains largely alive and characterizes many compositions of the record.
Jeff Glixman – with whom the band had been collaborating since their second album – is the producer of Point Of Know Return. This would be the last album they would work on together, or rather, it would take eighteen years for them to meet again in some studio. If the previous album relied on the single Carry On Wayward Son, here this role is taken on by the album's second single, Dust In The Wind, which becomes – most likely – the band's most characteristic song.
In terms of commercial success, the album reached No. 4 on the Billboard and with the 4,000,000 copies it sold there, it became the most commercially successful album in Kansas' entire career. There was also success in Canada, where with its 100,000 sales it also managed to go platinum there.
