But Seriously, Folks... by Joe Walsh
About the album But Seriously, Folks...
The album But Seriously, Folks... by Joe Walsh, released in May 1978, represents one of the most significant milestones in his solo career, combining his guitar prowess with his characteristic humor. This particular album was the fourth album of his solo career.
The album's style moves within the realm of classic rock, with strong elements of hard rock and blues rock, while also including experiments with reggae rhythms (as in Life's Been Good). The production, co-signed by Bill Szymczyk, is extremely meticulous and polished, reminiscent of the sound of the Eagles' Hotel California. In fact, all four other members of the Eagles (Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Don Felder, Timothy B. Schmit) participated in the recording. The recording was mainly done at Bayshore Recording Studios in Coconut Grove, Florida. An interesting fact is that the rehearsals and part of the recordings (specifically the track Theme From Boat Weirdos) took place on a 72-foot boat named "Endless Seas." The cover, designed by Jimmy Wachtel, depicts Walsh sitting at a table set with food... at the bottom of a swimming pool. No computers were used. All objects (plastic food and fish) were tied with weights and fishing lines to stay in place. Walsh himself stated that the process was exhausting and that he nearly drowned during the shoots, as he had to sit at the bottom of the pool while being provided with oxygen from a hidden tank between the takes.
But Seriously, Folks... reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and went platinum.
