Depende by Jarabe de Palo
About the album Depende
Depende is the second studio album by the Spanish band Jarabe de Palo, led by the unforgettable Pau Donés (1966-2020). It was released in 1998 by Warner Music Spain and was the work that confirmed the band's position on the global music scene, proving that the huge success of their debut, La Flaca, was no accident. The album is distinguished by its optimistic yet reflective character. The title "Depende" reflects Pau Donés' philosophy that everything in life is relative and depends on the perspective from which we view it. Musically, the album combines Latin rock with elements of blues, funk, salsa, and flamenco, creating a unique sound that became the band's trademark.
The album was recorded at Moody Studios in London and produced by Joe Dworniak, who worked with the band for about two months. The album features significant artistic collaborations, such as with the band Ketama in the song Te Miro y Tiemblo and the legendary Celia Cruz in the track A lo Loco.
Depende achieved tremendous commercial success, particularly in Spanish-speaking countries and Italy. For the Italian market, a special edition was released titled "Dipende," where Jovanotti adapted the lyrics into Italian. The album went 6 times platinum in Spain (over 600,000 copies) and 3 times platinum in Italy (!)
