About the album Nothing's Shocking
Jane's Addiction from Los Angeles innovate by releasing their first album as a live recorded album in May 1987, titled with the band's name. The first studio album will come a year later in August 1988 and will be Nothing's Shocking, which will also include some of the songs from the live album, but in studio execution. The album was accompanied by a provocative cover, which was based on a dream by Perry Farrell, the band's singer and songwriter. The burning women are not models, but replicas of women crafted by Farrell himself with the help of his then-girlfriend.
Jane's Addiction with the sound of Nothing's Shocking were among those bands that opened new paths in rock music since this particular album is among the first to promote what was called alternative rock/metal. The album received negative criticism both for its cover and for the video clip for its second single, Mountain Song.
The producers of the album were Perry Farrell and David Jerden. Nothing's Shocking initially reached No. 103 on the Billboard, but their sales in the US have now exceeded 1,000,000 copies. In the United Kingdom, it went on to become silver.
