About the album Joy

Joy is the sixth studio album by Isaac Hayes and was released in 1973. Hayes recorded his album in April and May of 1973. The five compositions included in the album belong exclusively to him except for the song I Love You That's All, for which he collaborated on the composition with Randall Stewart and Willie Hall.

The musical style of Joy moves between progressive soul and funk. Special mention should be made of the title track, with which the album opens. Joy is a 16-minute long song and is ranked among the best songs Isaac Hayes has composed in his entire career. The production of the album was done by him.

Joy reached No. 16 on the Billboard chart, and the sales it achieved led it to become gold in the U.S., while reaching No. 38 on the UK chart makes it the only Isaac Hayes album to achieve something measurable across the Atlantic.
