Jazzmatazz, Volume 1 by Guru
About the album Jazzmatazz, Volume 1
Jazzmatazz, Volume 1: An Experimental Fusion of Hip-Hop and Jazz, as is the full title of the first album by music producer and rapper Guru, also known as Keith Edward Elam. Guru emerged from the hip-hop duo Gang Starr and in 1993, through his first solo work, he wanted to mix his two loves, hip hop and Jazz.
Jazzmatazz, Volume 1 is an album with twelve compositions. Guru wrote the lyrics for most of the songs and performs them himself, while at the same time a great array of musicians and singers help him build the sound he had envisioned. In the studio with him are Ronny Jordan, Donald Byrd with his trumpet, N'Dea Davenport, MC Solaar, and many others. Trust Me, No Time To Play, and Loungin' were the three singles from the album.
The album reached No. 94 on Billboard and No. 58 in the United Kingdom.
