About the album Emergency On Planet Earth

Jamiroquai was formed in London in 1992 and the very next year, in 1993, their debut titled Emergency On Planet Earth was not only released but also achieved success, a success that gradually and steadily spread across Europe primarily, as the United States would take an interest in them after their third album.

Emergency On Planet Earth combined elements of funk music, disco, and soul to some extent, all packaged within an acid jazz framework. Certainly, the proposal of Jay Kay and his team at that time was something different to what the British pop & rock scene was used to. It's worth mentioning that the entire effort to release the album started from the ideas and recordings of frontman Jay Kay and keyboardist Toby Smith, who first wrote most of the album before finding the rest of the members of the band to record it.

The sales of Emergency On Planet Earth are estimated worldwide to have reached nearly 900,000 copies all over the world. The album was particularly commercially successful in France and Japan (!)
