About the album You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore, Vol. 3
You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore, Vol. 3 is a double live album by Frank Zappa, released in November 1989 by Rykodisc. It is the third installment in a series of six volumes that anthologize live recordings from his entire career. It includes recordings from December 10, 1971, to December 23, 1984. Unlike the previous volumes, this one focuses heavily on the 1982 and 1984 tours.
Unlike the previous volumes, this one focuses heavily on the 1982 and 1984 tours. The first disc consists almost entirely of material from the 1984 band. Many tracks have a strong reggae/ska style, characteristic of Zappa's bands during that period.
Zappa's son, Dweezil, participates by playing lead guitar on the opening track "Sharleena". It includes the tracks Cocaine Decisions and Nig Biz from the concert in Palermo, Italy (July 14, 1982), where incidents broke out and the police fired tear gas. In the recording, the sound of tear gas being launched near the stage is heard. A noteworthy moment of the album is the track King Kong in a special performance that is a "collage" of at least three different performances, including the historic concert at the Rainbow Theatre in 1971, shortly before Zappa was attacked by a spectator, while the album also includes Ride My Face To Chicago, Carol, You Fool, and Chana In de Bushwop, which were previously unreleased.
