About the album Hocus Pocus

The Dutch band Focus move to London in order to record their second studio album there, after first doing some preparatory work in their homeland. The recordings take place from mid-April to mid-May 1971, and the album will eventually be released in October of the same year.

This second album will be entitled Focus II, while its international release will be titled Moving Waves. The record is a blend of progressive rock, jazz fusion, and hard rock, with Focus attempting to incorporate some of the dominant musical trends prevalent in the early 1970s. The song that stood out and characterized the entire album is Hocus Pocus, which was released in a shorter version as the album's first single. This was followed by a second single, Tommy, which was actually the sixth part of a suite lasting over twenty-two minutes that covered the entire second side of the LP and was titled Eruption, consisting of fifteen parts (!).

The producer of Moving Waves was the British Mike Vernon, who had worked with the crème de la crème of the blues and rock scene of the late 1960s in England. The album achieved great success, both in the U.S. (No. 8) and in Great Britain (No. 2). Moving Waves reached No. 4 in the Netherlands.
