About the album Parasomnia
Parasomnia is the sixteenth album by Dream Theater and marks the historic return of the iconic drummer Mike Portnoy after 16 years of absence. It was released on February 7, 2025. It is a work that delves into the abyss of human sleep, exploring its dark disorders – from night terrors to sleepwalking.
Within its 71 minutes, the album weaves an auditory web where technical mastery meets raw emotion. The opening orchestral In The Arms Of Morpheus introduces us to a world between dream and nightmare, with John Petrucci’s riffs echoing like thunder in the silence of the night. James LaBrie's lyricism on Bend The Clock and A Broken Man lends a human, almost fragile dimension to the relentless machine of progressive metal. The climax comes with the epic The Shadow Man Incident, a 20-minute journey that seals the new era of the band with labyrinthine rhythms and cinematic atmosphere. The production belongs to John Petrucci.
The response from both the audience and critics for Parasomnia was warm, with many calling it a triumphant "return to roots" due to the reunion with Mike Portnoy. In the U.S., it reached the number 1 spot on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums, debuting at No. 41 on the Billboard 200.
