Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985 in Boston, Massachusetts. It was initially founded by John Petrucci, John Myung, and Mike Portnoy, who were students at Berklee College of Music. The band is known for their technical skill, complex compositions, and impressive live performance. Their debut album, "When Dream and Day Unite," was released in 1989, but it was their second album, "Images and Words" (1992), that brought them international recognition. Since then, Dream Theater has released a series of albums that combine elements of progressive rock, heavy metal, and other music genres.
