About the album Sunshine Superman

Sunshine Superman, the most famous and iconic album by Scottish Donovan Phillips Leitch or simply Donovan, due to some complications with his contract, was officially released in the USA and not in the United Kingdom. Sunshine Superman consists of ten songs overflowing with psychedelia and folk, all within 1966. It rightfully ranks among the most definitive albums of the psychedelic era in the United Kingdom and the United States.

In order for Donovan to create his third album and create as he wanted, to shed the label "the Scottish Bob Dylan," he uses sitar, electric violin, and even bouzouki (!). Most impressively, in the eponymous opening track of the record, Jimmy Page participated with his electric guitar and John Paul Jones with his bass (!) as session musicians two years before forming Led Zeppelin. The recordings of the album took place at two phases. They started at Abbey Road Studios in London and were completed at the CBS studios in April 1966 in Los Angeles, where he had come for some performances.

Sunshine Superman reached No.11 on the Billboard and was Donovan's greatest success in the USA, but also in his entire career. In June 2011, he performed the entire album at the Royal Albert Hall accompanied by the London Contemporary Orchestra and other artists. Jimmy Page was also there.
