About the album Diana Ross
After Diana Ross had a huge career in the '60s with the Supremes, in 1970 she decided to test her strength as a solo performer. The songwriters Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson proposed some of their compositions to Diana Ross, she recorded them, and by June 1970 her debut was ready, a debut that simply bore her name as its title.
The musical style of the album moves between soul and R&B. Diana Ross gave her best effort and the album managed to reach No. 1 on the Billboard black music chart and No. 19 on the main chart. The cover of the record is a photo by Harry Langdon of Diana Ross. Motown Records wanted to shake off the shine of previous years from Ross's image and thus signal a new beginning in her career.
The first two singles from the album were Reach Out And Touch (Somebody's Hand) and Ain't No Mountain High Enough. Diana Ross's first album over time reached 500,000 sales, which was considered unsatisfactory.
