diana by Diana Ross
About the album diana
The album diana, released in May 1980 by Motown Records, is the most commercially successful record in Diana Ross's personal career, which with this record established her as the ultimate pop and disco diva of the 1980s – at least in the U.S.
The diana was written and produced entirely by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, the founders of the band Chic. The musical style of the record is a combination of disco, funk, and R&B with strong pop elements. Its sound is characterized by Rodgers' distinctive "choppy" guitars and Edwards' strong bass. Although it is a masterpiece of pop-dance music, two songs stood out: Upside Down and I'm Coming Out, which have now become an integral part of the disco scene. During the creation of diana, there was tension between Diana Ross and the producers over the final mix, as the singer insisted that the sound be reworked (remixed) so that her vocals would be more dominant over the instruments.
In the end, the album remained on the charts for 52 weeks (!) and has sold over 10,000,000 copies worldwide.
