Fashion Nugget by Cake
About the album Fashion Nugget
Cake returned in September 1996 with the second album of their career, titled Fashion Nugget, an album that one would find difficult to categorize unless it is described with the very general term alternative rock, as this particular genre was established in the USA in the mid-1990s. Otherwise, references would have to be made to country, pop, hip hop, jazz, funk, and the list of categories goes on.
Fashion Nugget by Cake was one of the most pleasant listens of 1996. The singles The Distance and I Will Survive - a cover of Gloria Gaynor's 1978 hit - became some of the greatest hits of the mid-to-late 1990s. Their version of Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps also attracted particular interest, while, of course, one cannot ignore songs like Frank Sinatra or She'll Come Back To Me. The album's great strengths include the very good production, which was done by the band's members.
Cake's second album reached No. 36 in the USA and No. 53 in the United Kingdom. Its total sales in all countries have exceeded 2,000,000 copies. Fashion Nugget was the album that defined the musical signature of the band from Sacramento, California.
