About the album Balls To Picasso
Balls To Picasso is Bruce Dickinson's second solo album, which was released on June 6, 1994. It is a milestone in his career as it was his first release after his official departure from Iron Maiden in 1993. The original title was Laughing In The Hiding Bush (from a phrase by his son, Austin), but eventually Balls To Picasso was chosen as a reference to cubism.
This album marks the beginning of his long-term collaboration with guitarist and producer Roy Z and his band, Tribe Of Gypsies. The ten songs on the album are compositions by Dickinson, which he worked on together with Roy Z. The album's production was done by Shay Baby. The album showcased a more experimental and contemporary sound for the time, moving away from Maiden's classic heavy metal by incorporating elements of hard rock, groove, and even Latin or reggae influences.
Balls To Picasso reached No. 21 in the United Kingdom and No. 185 on the Billboard. In July 2025, More Balls to Picasso was released, a fully redesigned and "enhanced" version of the original album.
