About the album A Weekend In The City

A Weekend In The City is the second studio album by the British indie rock band Bloc Party, which was released in February 2007. It is considered a "difficult" but ambitious successor to their iconic debut Silent Alarm, with a darker and more personal subject matter focused on everyday life in London.

Kele Okereke's lyrics touch on sensitive social topics, such as the London bombings of 2005 (Hunting For Witches), racism, drug use, and the loneliness of the modern metropolis. Jacknife Lee's production introduced more electronic elements and synths, making the sound richer and more atmospheric, but less direct than the post-punk dynamism of their first record. Standout compositions include The Prayer, I Still Remember, Hunting for Witches, and Waiting For The 7.18.

In the United Kingdom, it reached No. 2 on the charts. In 2007 alone, it sold approximately 266,500 copies in the country. It also climbed to No. 2 on the charts in Ireland. In the U.S., it reached No. 12 on the Billboard, which is impressive for a British indie rock band. The album is often considered the band's second-best work after the iconic Silent Alarm.
