About the album The Age Of The Understatement
Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys and Miles Kane of Little Flames and the Rascals became friends and decided along with producer James Ford to form The Last Shadow Puppets in 2007 and to record twelve songs that would become their debut album titled The Age Of The Understatement, which was released in 2008.
The album immediately found success, particularly in Great Britain, where it sold 300,000 copies, winning over their compatriots with its nostalgic and quintessentially British baroque pop sound, which contains very strong and evident influences from symphonic music, which is present in almost every composition. The Last Shadow Puppets, in order to achieve this sound, collaborated with the London Metropolitan Orchestra, a sound that comes from Britain’s musical past. The Age Of The Understatement resembles a musical journey forty years back in time.
The Age Of The Understatement easily reached No.1 in the United Kingdom and certainly earned a well-deserved place among the most noteworthy British albums of 2008. Conversely, in the U.S. the album was limited to the 111th position on the Billboard chart.
