About the album Fin de Siècle
The Northern Irish Divine Comedy choose to title their sixth album in French. Thus, Fin de Siècle, which means “the end of the century,” is released in 1998 and becomes one of the band's most successful albums.
The recordings took place in three different studios as the band and its record company had many issues to resolve at that time, and disagreements were frequent in their discussions, resulting in interruptions in the recordings. The final product was a pop album or, better yet, orchestral pop music since they are accompanied by The Brunel Ensemble orchestra along with the Crouch End Festival choir.
Success came with the single of the song National Express, which reached No. 8 in the UK and is their highest-charting single. Fin de Siècle reached No. 9 in the UK, and its sales brought it to the level of a gold album in its country.
