Gran Turismo by The Cardigans
About the album Gran Turismo
Nina Persson and her band the Cardigans from Sweden started their career in the early '90s, and in 1998 they released their fourth album titled Gran Turismo. As Persson herself has stated, the album's title suggests the sense of travel that music offers to people. It is a very well and carefully recorded album. Its producer, Tore Johansson, has stated that everything one hears in the songs was put in with a purpose.
Gran Turismo transformed the Cardigans into pop/rock stars for the late '90s. The singles Erase/Rewind and My Favourite Game were major protagonists on FM radio at the close of the decade, as well as at the start of the next one.
The album has reached 3,000,000 copies sold worldwide. While the Cardigans certainly conquered Europe, in the USA they were largely ignored, as can be deduced from their No.151 placement on the Billboard charts.
