Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
About the album Songs From The Big Chair
The British Tears For Fears will create their own legend in the pop music of the 1980s with their second album, Songs From The Big Chair, whose title emerged when the group's singer and songwriter Roland Orzábal watched Sybil, a 1976 American drama film about a woman with psychological problems. The protagonist felt comfortable only when sitting in her therapist's chair. This was the big chair referred to in the album's title.
Songs From The Big Chair presents a different atmosphere from Tears For Fears' debut, which clearly had a heavier and darker atmosphere. Synth-pop predominates here as well, as we are in the heart of the eighties, but something brighter has appeared in the compositions of the young men from Bath in southern England. On the other hand, the element of progressive pop is also strong.
Songs From The Big Chair managed to become five times platinum in the U.S. (5,000,000 copies) and three times platinum in Great Britain (900,000 copies). Overall, it has now sold around 9,000,000 copies worldwide. It is worth noting that six out of the album's eight songs were released as singles. Shout and Everybody Wants To Rule The World have not stopped receiving radio play as they are among the most iconic songs of eighties pop music.
