About the album Cornerstone

Shortly before the end of the '70s, in October 1979, Styx reached their ninth studio album. The album is titled Cornerstone. This album marks a shift towards pop/rock musical paths, as it seems that the progressive rock with which they became known is visibly receding.

Cornerstone was recorded at Pumpkin Studios in Illinois. It contains nine compositions primarily composed by Tommy Shaw and Tommy Shaw. From the album, five songs stood out as singles. Among them, Babe achieved great success in the U.S., becoming the band's one and only No.1 single in the U.S. In many European countries, the fourth single in line, Boat On The River, was greatly loved. The production of the album was done by the band members themselves.

The album reached No.2 on the Billboard charts and sold 2,000,000 copies in the U.S. With this album, Styx managed to have their third consecutive album in the Top-10 in the U.S.
