The Psychomodo by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel
About the album The Psychomodo
The Psychomodo of 1974 - released in the USA in early 1975 - represents the peak moment of the first period of Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel.
It is considered a "lost masterpiece" of glam rock, combining elements of art rock, psychedelia, and theatrical cabaret. It is characterized by the absence of electric guitar, with the sound being dominated by electric violin and piano. All the songs on the album were written and composed exclusively by Steve Harley. The album's production was co-signed by Steve Harley himself and the famous Alan Parsons. The Psychomodo was recorded in February and March 1974 at Morgan Studios, Nova Sound Studios, and Air Studios in London, while the mastering was done at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. The two main singles of the album were Psychomodo, released in May 1974, and Mr. Soft, released in July 1974 and became a big hit, reaching No.8 on the UK chart.
The album as a whole was a commercial success for the band in the United Kingdom, reaching No.8 on the charts. It received excellent reviews for its innovative production and lyrics, and it went gold in 1975.
