Handsworth Revolution by Steel Pulse
About the album Handsworth Revolution
Handsworth Revolution was Steel Pulse's debut and was released in July 1977 by Island Records. Handsworth was the district in Birmingham where the Steel Pulse band grew up. The musical style of the album was a pure roots reggae style that did not pale in comparison to the Jamaican musical offerings of that time.
The first album by the British Steel Pulse was a small revelation since its success came out of nowhere or almost out of nowhere, as the album's first single, Ku Klux Klan, had been released a few months earlier and had captured the public's interest in Britain. However, no one expected the album to reach No. 9 on the UK charts ten days after its release. The album's producer was the Jamaican Karl Pitterson, who certainly knew how to properly guide the young Steel Pulse.
This success coincided with the European tour of Bob Marley & The Wailers, who asked them to accompany them on it. Steel Pulse thus found themselves with the opportunity of a lifetime and made the most of it.
