About the album Marcus Garvey

Marcus Garvey (1887 – 1940) was a Jamaican politician and advocate for the rights of black people. Burning Spear (or Winston Rodney) gave his name to the title of his third album.

Marcus Garvey is considered and is one of the best reggae albums of all time, and Burning Spear entered the pantheon of reggae artists with it.

The sound of the original recording was harsher, and the owner of Island Records, Chris Blackwell, asked for it to be re-recorded and to acquire a softer style.
