About the album Grave Dancers Union
Despite the fact that Soul Asylum from Minnesota achieved great success in 1992 with the album Grave Dancers Union and certainly with the single Runaway Train, this album was the sixth album released by Soul Asylum, as the band had formed about ten years earlier.
All the songs are compositions by Dave Pirner, who is also the singer and guitarist of the band. The album was produced by Michael Beinhorn. The musical direction moves somewhere between punk and grunge, but certainly, all of these come under the shadow of the American alternative rock sound of the 1990s that prevails throughout the album. The iconic cover photo is a work by Czech professional photographer Jan Saudek from 1971 and is titled: "Fate Descends Towards the River Leading Two Innocent Children".
Grave Dancers Union reached No11 on the Billboard charts and has sold over 2,000,000 copies in the United States. The album also achieved success in European countries as the video clips were in MTV's daily playlist, thus introducing Soul Asylum to many more people beyond America.
