Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
About the album Bridge Over Troubled Water
Bridge Over Troubled Water became the fifth and final studio album for the legendary duo of Simon & Garfunkel. Part of its huge success is credited to its producer, Roy Halee.
Ten out of the twelve songs on the album are compositions by Paul Simon. El Condor Pasa (If I Could) is an adaptation of a Peruvian traditional song, and Bye Bye Love is a cover of the Everly Brothers' 1957 hit. The album was released in January 1970 and, in truth, it received quite a few negative reviews as it was characterized as something superficial and simplistic. Over time, opinions changed, and it was evidently due to the enormous acceptance the album received from the music-loving public.
This is the duo's most commercially successful album. Its global sales are estimated to be around 25,000,000 copies (!) This makes it have sold eight times the number of copies compared to the duo's next studio album, which is Sounds Of Silence, with "only" 3,200,000 copies. Bridge Over Troubled Water reached No.1 in ten countries and won six Grammy awards, with the highlight being that of the best album of the year.
