About the album Bookends
The folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel released their fourth album titled Bookends in 1968. The album mainly consists of compositions by Paul Simon, with Art Garfunkel contributing only the Voices Of Old People, which was not a song, but the voices of some old people that Garfunkel recorded talking.
The songs of Bookends were scattered recordings between the years 1966 and 1968. The first side of the album and the songs it consisted of had the common denominator of human life's journey. The second side of the vinyl essentially contained successful singles, all gathered together. Of course, the biggest hit of the album was Mrs. Robinson, a song that had marked the previous year's film "The Graduate". The other big hit of the album was A Hazy Shade Of Winter.
The album did exceptionally well as it hit the top of the charts in both the USA and Great Britain. In the USA - specifically - sales reached 2,000,000 copies.
