Under Jolly Roger by Running Wild
About the album Under Jolly Roger
Jolly Roger is the name of the classic pirate flag, and the German band Running Wild chose the title Under Jolly Roger for their third album to shake off the reputation of being just another heavy metal band dealing with Satan. Thus, they created the subgenre of heavy metal known as pirate metal (!)
In reality, Running Wild is a heavy metal band that operates within the boundaries of power metal, and Under Jolly Roger is one of the most characteristic albums of power metal. The band's guitarist and singer, Rolf Kasparek, is behind most of the album's compositions. Dirk Steffens assists the band in the album's production.
The album was recorded at Soundhouse Studios in Hamburg in early 1987 and was released in April of the same year.
