Port Royal by Running Wild
About the album Port Royal
The German band Running Wild released their fourth album in 1988, which is titled Port Royal. Port Royal is actually the place where the pirate John Rackham was hanged on November 18, 1720, and it is located in Jamaica. This particular pirate was known by the nickname Calico Jack, and the album closes with an eight-minute-long song dedicated to him.
With Port Royal, Running Wild, due to the album's theme, continue what they started on their previous album, namely pirate metal. The musical style here also falls within power metal. This particular album is the one that established and made the Germans known to a broader audience in the metal community. The cover of the record is a work by Sebastian Krüger.
The great success of the album was the song Conquistadores. Port Royal reached No. 36 in Finland.
