About the album Música Moderna

Música Moderna is the iconic debut of Radio Futura, a band that was destined to redefine Spanish rock. The album was released in May 1980 by Hispavox and is considered one of the cornerstones of the Movida Madrileña, the cultural movement that flourished in Madrid after Franco's dictatorship. The recording took place at the Hispavox studios in Madrid between November 1979 and March 1980, under the production of Honorio Herrero.

Música Moderna is a combination of new wave, power pop, and glam rock influences. Although the band later (mainly the trio of the Auserón and Sierra) distanced themselves from this sound, considering it too "commercial" or imposed by the company, the album remains a masterful depiction of the hedonism and optimism of the era. The standout song was Enamorado de La Moda Juvenil, an anthem of consumer culture and youth fashion, and Divina "Los Bailes de Marte," which was a cover of "Ballrooms of Mars" by Marc Bolan (T. Rex), highlighting their glam roots.

Although Radio Futura evolved into a much more experimental outfit that introduced African and Latin rhythms into rock (as in La ley del desierto / La ley del mar), Música Moderna remains the "snapshot" of the moment when Spain discovered modernism. The departure of Molero and Pérez-Grueso after Música Moderna marked the end of this first period and the birth of Radio Futura's "classic" sound.
