...But Seriously by Phil Collins
About the album ...But Seriously
Phil Collins needed more than four years to present his fourth solo release at the end of 1989. In the meantime, a massive and successful tour with Genesis had intervened to promote the 1987 album Invisible Touch. Thus, between April and October 1989, Phil Collins spent time at The Farm studio, owned by Genesis, preparing the album that became the second most commercially successful in his solo career, ... But Seriously.
The album in its basic edition consisted of twelve compositions. Half of the songs were released as singles, with the first and foremost being Another Day In Paradise in October 1989 and the last being Hang In Long Enough in September 1990. Among the artists who supported Phil Collins in this effort stand out Stevie Winwood on organ, Eric Clapton and Dominic Miller on guitar, and David Crosby on backing vocals. Excellent work was also done by The Phenix Horns on the brass instruments. In the production of the album, along with Collins, we also have Hugh Padgham.
The album sales have approached 14,000,000 worldwide. Number 1 spots followed one after another in countries such as the USA, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Greece, Italy, and Canada. The ... But Seriously is an album that kept Phil Collins at the top of pop & rock music, but it should be noted that the very lovely video clips for Another Day In Paradise, I Wish It Would Rain Down, and Something Happened On The Way To Heaven dominated MTV air-play for the early years of the '90s.
