About the album Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark

Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, founding members of O.M.D., use the advance they receive from Dindisc and invest it in creating and organizing their own studio in Liverpool, which they name Gramophone Suite. There, in 1980, they will record their first album, which will bear the name of their group.

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark adopts a highly synth-pop sound, which does not hide at all their influences from the German pioneers of the genre, Kraftwerk, which are more than evident. Naturally, the big success of the album is Electricity, which is the first composition written by the duo of McCluskey and Humphreys.

The album reached No. 27 in the United Kingdom and by selling over 100,000 copies, it became O.M.D.'s first gold album in their homeland, drawing attention to them.
