About the album All The Young Dudes
The beginning of the British band Mott The Hoople goes back to 1966. Thus, the album All The Young Dudes from 1972 is the fifth in their career. The title track of the record - one of nine - is a composition by David Bowie, who had specifically composed this song for Mott The Hoople. The producer of the album was Bowie, while the contribution of guitarist Mick Ronson was also invaluable.
All The Young Dudes was recorded between May and July of 1972 at Olympic Studios and Trident Studios in London. The album begins with a cover of Lou Reed's Sweet Jane, while the remaining seven tracks on the record are compositions by the group members. In the song Jerkin' Crocus, Bowie helps with the vocals, but also plays the saxophone. The musical style of the album is fully in harmony with the glam rock/pop atmosphere of the early '70s that prevailed in Great Britain, and more specifically in London.
The record reached No. 21 in Great Britain, while in the Billboard it advanced only to No. 89.
