The 1982 album Mecano is the debut of the eponymous Spanish band and is considered one of the most important milestones in the Spanish pop scene. It combines synth-pop and new wave elements, with strong influences from bands like Spandau Ballet.

Mecano includes some of the most iconic songs of the Movida Madrileña. The song Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar, which was their first single and became an anthem of Spanish youth, and Me Colé en Una Fiesta, another huge commercial success that reached No. 1 on the charts. The album is colloquially known as "the album with the clock" due to the large clock depicted on the cover.

The album sold over 1,000,000 copies in Spain alone by the end of 1982, making them the most successful group of the time. In 2023, Mecano was re-released on vinyl, re-entering the charts (!)
