About the album Trouble Man
Trouble Man is Marvin Gaye's first attempt to write music for a film. Trouble Man was released in December 1972 and serves as the soundtrack for the film of the same name by director Ivan Dixon. It is a film belonging to the Blaxploitation genre, which was successful in the first half of the '70s in the United States. The highly successful soundtracks of the films "Shaft" and "Superfly" had already been created by Isaac Hayes and Curtis Mayfield respectively, and Marvin Gaye wanted to follow in the footsteps of their success.
The album is an exclusive work of Marvin Gaye from the composition of the tracks to their production and was recorded at Motown Records, Hitsville West studios in Los Angeles. As Marvin Gaye writes and records the soundtrack, he focuses on the film's protagonist, Mister T, portrayed by actor Paul Winfield. For this reason, most of the album's compositions have the letter T or the word Trouble in their title.
The album reached No.14 on the Billboard chart, but over the years it has not managed to become a signature album for its creator - without meaning that it is not a very notable effort that combines funk, soul, and elements of jazz music.
