About the album Let's Get It On

In 1973, Marvin Gaye released Let's Get It On, an album which thematically stands in contrast to 1971's What's Going On, which was full of social messages and concerns about serious issues affecting US society at that time. On the contrary, Let's Get It On and its compositions are a highly erotic album.

The songs of the album were created from June 1970 to July 1973, meaning they were not songs written in the same period. Nevertheless, the entirety of the album rewards the listener and does not puzzle them. Ed Townsend is involved in the production and composition of half the songs. Due to the sensational interpretation in the song Let's Get It On, Marvin Gaye emerges as one of the romantic performers of the 1970s.

Let's Get It On is a landmark album for Soul and R&B music. It influenced many contemporary and later black artists in how to interpret their songs and in how to orchestrate their compositions.
