Dangerous Acquaintances by Marianne Faithfull
About the album Dangerous Acquaintances
Dangerous Acquaintances was Marianne Faithfull’s eighth studio album, which was released as the highly anticipated follow-up to the legendary Broken English. It was released on September 1, 1981, by Island Records. The production was signed by Mark Miller Mundy, while the mixing was done by Bob Potter and Ed Thacker.
The album moves in more mainstream rock and pop paths compared to its predecessor, incorporating elements of New Wave and Synth-pop. Faithfull sought a less "dark" sound, wanting to avoid the image of the victim or the "tragedy queen of rock'n'roll." The title is a reference to Pierre Choderlos de Laclos' novel, Les Liaisons dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons). Sweetheart was the main single of the release, which was also accompanied by a music video.
The album Dangerous Acquaintances reached No.45 on the UK charts. Although it was considered less groundbreaking than Broken English, it achieved satisfactory sales, mainly in Canada and France.
